Do Vizslas Have health problems? yes in short all breeds and x breeds do The current recommendations from the UK Kennel club are dogs and bitches should be hip scored in addition to this we also screen all breeding stock for Cerebellar Ataxia, HUU and the LH gene and we have hearts audibly checked for any signs of a murmur and  Some of our dogs are also elbow scored, eye tested, thyroid tested.

Potential purchasers should be aware that the Vizsla can also suffer from idiopathic Epilepsy, idiopathic Autoimmune disorders and dietary intolerances while we don’t breed from dogs who suffer from any of these conditions themselves we cannot rule out the potential of a puppy contracting once of these conditions due to the unavailability of DNA test and the fact they are idiopathic (cause unknown) and contributory factors such as environment, diet, stress etc..

Do Vizslas need tons of exercise? No the Vizsla is built to hunt in all terrains all day you will never tire them out they do need daily off lead runs but more than anything they need company and mental stimulation. Think Chess not Rugby!

Are your puppies Kennel club Registered ?  Yes our puppies are registered on the breed register with the UK Kennel Club.

Are you puppies microchipped prior to sale? Yes in line with UK law our puppies are microchipped with an ISO compatible microchip prior to sale.

Are you puppies vaccinated prior to sale? yes we currently vaccinate puppies giving DHP & Lepto 2 prior to sale this is constantly under review as veterinary recommendations change.

Do you offer any insurance with puppies? Yes 4 weeks with Pet Plan we can also offer some other companies policies if preferred

Do you supply puppy packs with your puppies? Yes we do each puppy leaves with a complimentary puppy pack containing 4kg of food, a scented blanket, a 40 page care guide specific to your individual puppy, 5 generation pedigree, microchip registration documentation, Kennel club documentation, 4 weeks insurance and various vouchers.

In addition to the complimentary pack we offer a service where you can order larger items such as additional food, toys, crates for collection with your puppy , price lists and ordering instructions are supplied to you when the puppies are born.

What age are puppies homed?  Around 8 weeks of age is normal

Do you export? Yes we export to responsible people in countries with a good standard of animal welfare, additional costs involved are paid by the puppy purchaser.

Will u sell me two puppies?  Every case has to be judged on its own merits but as a rule unless you are experienced and have the time and space to train two puppies separately it isn't a good idea to have two puppies at the same time.

Do your puppies carry breeding restrictions? Yes they do details of their term can be viewed in our sales agreement seen here

Are your puppies suitable as pets? Yes most of the dogs we have bred are primarily a pet even if they have a secondary job such as gundog work , agility, showing, search and rescue , pat dogs, obedience…to list a few, temperament is paramount in all activities especially as a pet.

Future owners buying a pet should however consider the breeds original function and ensure they have the time to provide adequate mental stimulation and exercise

I am a first time dog owner will you sell me a puppy? Yes we will provided you have convinced us you have done your research into the breed and the impact owning one will make on your lifestyle and you are prepared for the upheaval .

I work fulltime will you sell me a puppy? We will consider this but only when you can demonstrate to me you have adequate day care in place including a “back up plan”,  it isn’t acceptable just to have someone pop in for a quick toilet stop,  your dog must not be alone for more than four hours in any one day.

I have children under 5 will you sell me a puppy?  Yes but only if you have really considered the implications of caring for small children and a exuberant bouncy, chewy , mouthy puppy if you can’t dedicate individual time to training your puppy or your children are fearful of dogs I’d recommend waiting till your children are a little older.

What should I expect to pay for a puppy? The current cost of a puppy from ourselves is £1200 payable as £200 deposit and £1000 at collection time.

All our sales are fully receipted

Do I get to pick my puppy? No we will select a puppy for you using a combination of temperament test results, our years of experience with the breed and day to day knowledge of our litter, we will consult with you over physical/temperamental characteristics prior to any selection being made.

We have never had anyone who was dissatisfied with our choice and since we started the selection process rehoming numbers have decreased due to better matches being made.

Can I have my puppy docked? If you intended to work your puppy then legally he or she may be docked by our vet at 2 days of age, pet puppies cannot be legally docked.

Can I spay or Neuter my puppy? Yes you can one the dog has reached maturity, the Vizsla is a slow maturing breed so our contract states that unless necessary for a medical reason you shouldn't castrate or spay your puppy before obtaining 18 months of age. a study carried out on 2500 Vizslas revealed some important finding regarding the effects of early neutering this study can be read here in full.

Advice on dealing with your bitches season is provided in our puppy care booklet which can be down loaded here.

Will I have to wait to get a puppy?  Yes I am afraid so we keep a waiting list of between 6-18months so please do contact us nice and early.

Can I buy a Gunfield puppy anywhere else? No Gunfield is the Kennel name of Katy & Andrew Olsson only dogs bred by us and born in our home carry this kennel name.

We do keep a list of puppies sired our stud dogs or bred under our guidance but they will be registered under the breeders own kennel name.

Are you members of any clubs/schemes? We are members of the KC assured breeders scheme a scheme we believe promotes ethical dog breeding,  We are also members of the dog breeders association.

Do you have a question not listed? If so please email Katy and we can add it to this list
