Recommendations

The main accolade any breeder can have is the success of the vizslas they have produced success is measured in many ways but the main success in our view is the Vizsas that have gone on to make their owners happy  wether as a pet , a working dog or a show dog, below are some of the responses we have recieved from owners of the puppies we have bred..............

The Kanadai litter were 4 months old yesterday and I am writing to say how ecstatic we are with our boy Bennet.

From first discovering your marvellous website and persuading my family we should have another vizsla to meeting you and the gorgeous Gunfield clan and being put on the reserve list.  Then the excitement of the birth and following the progress of the puppies via your updates and photos plus being able to communicate with other eager new owners of the litter via your website was such a wonderful experience.

Bennet is perfect to us.  He is such a character and is loved by us all from our 6 year old vizsla to our 83 year old father who lives with us.  He is fit and healthy and not only has a huge appetite for food but also for life.  He shows no fear and is very bold and adventurous but also has a lovely, sweet nature too.

Your knowledge and care of the vizsla really shows in the dogs you breed and we are so lucky to have our boy Bennet.

Wishing you and your family and all the Gunfield clan all the very best.

Regards

We obtained a puppy from Kate and Andy in March 2008, and she is now four months old. We couldn't be happier with our puppy, Willow. She has a wonderful friendly temperament, is extremely confident and she is learning very quickly.

The support and advice we had from Kate and Andy was invaluable, and all of the information in the puppy pack was so helpful. It was also great to be able to visit and meet all of the Gunfield vizslas, and to follow the whole process from conception to collection of the pup on the internet site.

We would definitely recommend Gunfield to anyone looking for a pup from this delightful breed.

Dear Kate and Andrew,

Alfie(Gunfield Fine Design) had his 2nd jab on Friday 10/08/07 at 11 weeks and 3 days. He had no problems with the vacc. He weighed 8kgs at the vets.

Alfie went out on his first walk on Saturday 18/8/07 to Snelsmore Common country park which is 2 miles from our house. He managed a 15 min walk on the lead very well. We have had a lot of fun with Alfie and apart from a bit of neck nipping and milk searching, he is getting on well with Della our Vizsla who is 9.5 years old. The 2 dogs play in our back garden and lay on the deck if the sun comes out.  He has a plastic tub with a few inches of water to play in. He floats leaves and plays with stones in it. He also  joins in with Swingball.

The 2 dogs love sleeping together on the sofa most of the evening. After a late trip to the garden, Alfie goes into his large crate overnight for safety and house training. He wakes somewhere between 6am and 7.15 am.

He seems very clever and he picks up his food bowl and runs round with it to ask for food. The only problem was he picked up his water bowl, carried it carefully across the room, then jumped on the sofa and the water shot up in the air landing on his head!

He is eating just the Proplan alone as we want to keep it simple, and he drinks loads of water. He gets a few pieces of chicken, meat or carrot treats when we do bits of training during the day. We are feeding him 1 full measuring cup of proplan (approx 200g) plus a few small treats per day. Do you think this is the correct quantity at this age?

Many thanks for a healthy and happy puppy. You can see the effects of good breeding and rearing in his health and behaviour.

All the best for now,

Angela, Andy & Grace Hanraham (Gunfield fine design)

Kate and Andrew helped us all the way through the process of selecting our puppy and offered helpful advise in our early days. Both parents were available for us to view and spend time with,  and thank you for giving your time and answering all our many questions.

Kate and Andrew of Gunfield Vizsla's are consiencious, caring and responsible breeders of this very speacial dog.
The process of buying a puppy from them was overall very smooth and uncomplicated. The website is fantastic, very informative and it enables you to watch your puppy grow from birth with regular picture updates.
We got all the advice we needed and asked for, a brilliant puppy pack with lots of information in it and most importantly a fit, healthy, gorgeous vizsla pup!
We know that we can call or email them whenever we need them to answer a question or give us a bit of advice.
I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Gunfield Vizsla's to anyone who is interested in this breed.

The overall proces of buying a puppy was very well organised your experiance andenthusiasm and love of the dogs is so obvious that you inspire confidence. I wouldn`t hesitate to recommend you in the future.Thankyou both so much.
For anyone thinking about purchasing this breed I would encourage them to do a lot of research about the breed before deciding, try and speak to others who own the breed and make sure you can commit the time and energy to the dog.

Dear Kate, thank you so much for the wonderful photos of Zeus, Skye and Zues definitely the same family.  Skye is an absolute treasure only I sometimes don't say that when I am knee deep in tissue paper!!

After re-homing a Gunfield puppy (Gunfield Anna) I would like to say she is the most
sweetest, adorable, loving and affectionate dog I have ever met and I trust
her implicitly with children and other dogs, there is not a bad bone in her
body and I wouldn't be without her.

Helen Petts

Zues - He is the most delightful puppy and we are all enjoying him very much, He has been the star pupil at puppy training, and has a delightful bouncy
disposition. So far he thinks the whole world is his friend and plays
happily with all the other dogs he meets. I hope this lasts and that he
doesn't grow into a 'stroppy teenager'. He loves water and keeping him out
of our garden pond is a problem, particularly when it was heaving with frogs. He is an amazingly strong swimmer and loves walks by the river and
lakes.

thought I'd drop you a few lines and give you the update on Maddox! We have had him a week and four days and it seems like we have had him forever! He is just adorable and is such a little character- he is an old man stuck in puppy clothing!!! He has been an absolute dream with house training and we only really had a few accidents within the first couple of days and he now just lets us know when he needs the toilet!. He really is a handful though and very stubborn, which seems to make him just more adorable!. He had his identichip on saturday and was such a brave lad- didn't even flinch! We are just itching to take him out now and can't wait for his second vaccine!
We've got some photos which I will send once we have had them developed- he is a little clown, so they are very funny!.
Have you heard from rest of the litter? Hope all is well with you and the gang.
Speak soon.Take care.
Viki and Les. (Maddox 2005 litter)

Bella's doing well and growing fast. She is slowly learing house training with a few relapses, she certainly likes the sound of her own voice and moans like an old woman. We're really looking forward to a Sunday week when we can start taking her for walks

J hedley (Bella 2005 litter)

Hi Andrew & Kate
Hope all is well with you.
Just to let you know amber is coming along beautifully she has finished her jabs and is enjoying he new found freedom.  We attended our first training class at the GSP club last weekend. She was the youngest puppy and handled it really well.  We completed steadiness exercises and she was introduced to gunfire via the starting pistol, all went well.
Cheers
Rob

Hi there Kate!
Well Maddox is now a big handsome boy! We took him to his first steam fair at Hollowell about a month ago. It's a big fair with lots of craft stalls and activities and it's a huge meeting ground for people taking their dogs so we thought it would be a good experience for him to go. He was so well behaved and we got stopped by lots of people admiring him, one lady suggested we enter him in a competition for the best puppy! We decided as a bit of fun to enter him into 'best puppy' and 'best gun dog' we hadn't realized that the competition we had entered were serious competition with actual show dogs!! Well Les's chest almost burst with pride as he came second in both categories!! We were so proud of him and the judge said that we really should show him because he is so gorgeous!!! Arhhh... the pride!!!
Well both Les and myself were on holiday last week so Maddox had his first experience of being in kennels. He apparently was very good, but my dad picked him up for us a couple of days before we came back , he has 3 dogs of his own and he said that Maddox is a bully! So we are now trying to see what my dad means as although Maddox is very boisterous, we think he is well behaved. He does try and get his own way with alot of things if he can get away with it, but most of the time he's testing the person he is with- he's so stubborn!
All in all, he has totally transformed our lives and we really can't imagine life without him. I shall send you some more pictues when we have some. I hope all is well with you're lot.
Speak to you soon.
Viki.

I would just like to say Kate and Andrew are probally some of the most helpfull people we have met within our search for a Vizsla. we have decided on the advice of them to wait a while longer till our house move is all completed.

It was nice to meet a breeder who was full of information and was happy to give us their time and allow us to see there dogs with out trying to sell a puppy to us.

thakyou once again to kate and Andrew good luck with the vizslas and we will be back in touch the moment we are settled.

Update on Rosie ( Gunfield Foxi ) aged 8 months born Feb 05
Rosie's training is coming on very well. She is very bright and can be a bit stubborn.
She enjoys retrieving most of all both from land and water. She has a good nose and will hunt freely when she has a scent.
We have had a fantastic weekend. Saturday was her first driven bird day which I was a bit nervous about as she had not worked or trained in the company of other dogs nor had she been near gun shot. My fears were put to rest on the first drive as she took no notice of the other dogs and showed no fear of the gun shot.
At the end of the second drive one of the guns put up a pricked hen which flew over my head and dropped into the game crop behind me. I marked the spot and sent Rosie in after it, not really expecting her to find the bird. However 2-3 minutes later out popped Rosie with the hen in her mouth still kicking. She brought it to me sat and presented it as if she'd done it a hundred times before(one very proud Simon).
Today was her first working test(GSP Inter Club Challenge).

Test 1 the water.
Very good but dropped the dummy before I could take it from her( my fault trying to be clever and making her sit)

Test 2 Hunting.
Nice and steady but did not get out very far but was hunting.

Test 3 Stay-recall-stop.
Broke the stay(my fault again ,to casual)
Failed to stop on the whistle although she did stop eventually and still picked some points.

Test 4 Retrieve.
2 dummies thrown, one to be retrieved by the dog and the other by the handler whilst the dog remains in the sit.
'piece of cake' FULL MARKS.

Out of fourteen puppies Rosie was the youngest by 4 months and she came in fourth.
(one very proud Simon,again).

Gunfield foxi went on to win a field trial at 22 months of age

Hi Kate,

Thanks for the Rosie update.  It?s nice to hear about Orson?s siblings.  He is doing fine.  He weighs in at 53lbs now, and it?s all muscle.  I?ve starting training for a half marathon and he loves to run with me.  We are only at 2 miles right now, but where we live we are able to run mostly on grass, which spares his joints and mine.  His swimming continues to improve and, considering he is doing all his practice in ocean swells, it is pretty impressive.  The training is not too bad either.  We are not the most firm owners in the world and the puppy trainer tells us we cuddle him too much even when he is not actually being good!  Orson is definitely naughtier that we remember Boris being as a pup.

I am in the process of sorting out a beginner?s agility class for him, which I think he will be good at.  He jumps over all gates that we have in the house?mostly so that he can be with our old dog.  (We keep them separate when we aren?t in the house, as Boris cannot keep up with Orson and, with his arthritis, he shouldn?t try.)

Orson has just started being a guard dog too.  He barks when people come up to the house, though he is so friendly, he doesn?t actually stop anyone from coming in.  He did give a serious sounding bark the other day when I was home alone at night, and a car came up the driveway.  Turned out it was only Terry though?

A friend took a bunch of digital pics of him in the summer, which she never sent on to me.  I guess I will have to break down and actually buy a digital camera so that I can send you some photos.

Anyway, that?s it for now.  Hope all is well with you.

We got little Stanley back no problem(took the car journey in his stride), he was as go as gold. He has had his dinner, had a good old play with Oliver(Oliver loves him and is completely fascinated with him),went for wee wee's in the garden(he is very good), now they are both shattered and are now sound asleep(for a wee while anyway).  I will keep you updated regularly(frequently over the next week) as I know you must be anxious for the pups, don't worry Stanley has come to a very loving home.

Thank you for all the puppy packs and info
the Tennent family - with Gunfield mitikus hephastus who is now living  nr  Fife

Gunfield mitikus Hermes-

Just a note to let you know he is a little rascal.,  Absolutely full of energy and playfulness, he is getting very used to the word NO!!  Night times aren't too bad he seems to wake up at 4am, and howl the place down but if you ignore him he soon falls asleep.

Anyway, all is well he is eating and drinking and jumping about.

Will keep in touch.

She is doing fine whole family loves her. We have called her Gem as she is
our little treasure. Been noisy at night which is to be expected but great
at going to the toilet outside.
Thanks for everything will keep you updated

Hi kate, We have now decided to call our new puppy Indi. The journey home
took approx. 2 hrs and she never stopped twisting and turning during the drive
home. We introduced her to Harvey ( our 5 year old Vizsla ) and they got on
really well, she ate her dinner in double quick time and fell asleep about 08-00pm
dead to the world, and did not wake until about 06-00am. We left her to cry for about
2hrs, until 08-00am and took her out for her constitutional, she ate her dried
biscuits in no time at all. She his exceptionally livley and is already cuffing Harvey on
his nose with her paw, he put her in her place when she tried to take his biscuit from
him. She is so cute i'am sure she will be the leader of the band in no time at all. Thank
you for all your support and updates on your wonderful web site.
Will keep you updated with Indi's progress.

     Many Thanks.

Hi Kate, just a quick update on the latest addition to our family Gunfield Mitikus Demeter.

After a relatively stress free journey home "Demeter" (or Scooby Doo as he has been named by the children) having fallen asleep on our daughter Niamh's lap, entered the house on Saturday afternoon with the same relaxed air that is such a large part of his character.

He settled in straight away exploring the house and gardens and must have been very tired as he actually let us sleep from 10pm right through until 0530 when he called for us to let him out to his outside "toilet" area in the Garden next to the Conservatory which is now his home.

He is an absolute joy and although on Sunday he started to relax and got a little over excited and started nipping harder and harder he soon responded to our fair but not too firm attempts at training him.

He is very keen to please and we particularly like his sterling efforts at toilet training which makes us look like good owners.  He only really "calls" for us when he has to go outside and although some might say it's just the cold he always delivers does his business and then its straight back in where he loves nothing better that to snuggle into my lap and make cute noises until he drifts off to sleep.

So far so good, it looks as if "Scooby" has inherited his father's relaxed and easy temprement.  We will let you know what else is been happening and send you some pictures soon.

Thanks once again, from the Donoghue family, John, Jean, and espcially Niamh and Rory (cambridgeshire)

Hi Kate

What an absolute delight this puppy is!  Confident, affectionate, curious, energetic - wonderful!!  After weeks of discussion and differences (!), we have decided to call her Dilys.

We had a good journey home - she spent most of it in the cage, sleeping on her back with her legs in the air.  The rest of the journey she spent playing on Lizzie's lap.  Give Andrew our thanks for the pig's ear - a little bit of home to take with us - it kept her busy in the car and is now getting a good going-over here at home!

She is very keen to make friends with our Cavalier, who is not sure what to make of her yet.  The signs are good, though, because at the moment they are curled up together on Lizzie's lap.  So much for our resolve not to have lap dogs!

We had a noisy night but did all manage some sleep.  Got up very early with her this morning, because we felt she had done well to manage 5 hours on her own in her (enormous) cage!  We had shut her in - to keep her and the Cavalier apart until they are secure around each other.

She is eating well and playing well with her new toys.  She seems to understand perfectly about house-training!  Only one accident so far and that was my fault, not getting her outside in time.  She is enjoying the garden but as it is quite big, it looks like it will take her a while to get round to exploring all of it.

We are absolutely captivated by her and utterly thrilled!  We are indebted to you for letting us have such a lovely girl.  We'll keep in touch but be assured that she seems relaxed and happy - and full of life!

Warmest regards

Sue

Well 48 hours have passed since we collected little Wizard (Hades) and we are pleased to report that he is doing just fine.
Was very good on relatively short journey home (30 minutes), apart from being a sick just before we arrived-typical!
Was a bit quiet when first got home, but after having a short sleep and recharging his batteries, has not looked back since.
